Dr. Satoshi Wada can be characterized as an
outstanding scientist in Japan. He is Chief Executive Officer of Megaopto Co.,
Ltd.
Born in Shiki-city, Saitama, Dr. Wada obtained his M.Sc. and Ph.D. degrees in
laser physics from Tokyo University of Science, Tokyo, Japan, in 1989 and 1992,
respectively.
Dr. Wada began his scientific career in 1992 as a Special Postdoctoral Researcher
in the former Ministry of Science and Technology (now MEXT: Ministry of Education,
Culture, Sports, Science and Technology). In 1995 he became a Research Scientist
at RIKEN, The Institute of Physical and Chemical Research. Here, in 2002, he was
promoted to the position of Research Unit Leader for the Solid-State Optical Devices
Research Unit, which he still holds.
On the business side, in 1996, since Photon Tuning Co., Ltd. (later renamed Megaopto
Co., Ltd.) was established, Dr. Wada has been an integral part in the promotion
of research and development. In 2000, he became a member of Megaopto’s board of
directors when the company adopted this name.
Dr. Wada has served as CEO since 2006.
Dr. Wada is a one of the best researchers regarding laser and processing application
in Japan. His works have been chosen twice for the Attention Invention award of
the Ministry of Science and Technology. Dr. Wada has written over 50 papers for
refereed scientific journals and conference proceedings, holds 40 patents, and
continues to announce superior research results both in domestic and foreign academic
societies.
Dr. Wada has also been recognized as an excellent business man, having earned
several awards for his business work.. In 2006, he received the Saitama Challenge
Executive Special award in recognition of his outstanding contribution to research,
and increasing achievements in new market development.
Dr. Wada is the Tokyo chapter’s secretary of the Laser Society of Japan, and a
committee member of the Optoelectronics Industry and Technology Development Association. |
